The CALAS Regional Centre Central America and the Caribbean, in close collaboration with the project "Connected Worlds: The Caribbean, Origin of the Modern World" (ConnecCaribbean), invites to the Platform for Dialogue "Connected Histories of the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Americas: Slavery, Racialisation, Resistance and Cultural Diversity". It will take place at the University of Costa Rica from 10 to 12 October 2024.
Call for papers
The meeting will offer a space to present and discuss individual experiences, academic analysis, political and activist positions, literary and artistic representations.
Thematic axes
The Platform for Dialogue will be structured around the following axes:
- Transatlantic slavery
- Cultural and economic links between Africa and the Caribbean
- Slave labour, race, gender and racialisation
- Resistances of the enslaved population and Afro-descendant communities
- Literary, linguistic and artistic representations of diversity: construction of identities and self-representations
Terms and conditions of the call for applications
- The call is addressed to applicants from the fields of History, Social Sciences, Law, Humanities, Arts and Literature who can contribute to the topics presented in empirical as well as theoretical and methodological terms.
- Fill in the application form with the title and summary of the proposal and a brief academic record with an indication of professional career and relevant publications.
- Languages: English, French and Spanish.
- Deadline for submitting proposals: 1 May 2024.
An academic committee will select the papers based on criteria of excellence. Applicants will be notified by June 15, 2024 of the decision on their work.
CALAS will cover accommodation expenses. In addition, there will be resources for travel expenses.
Date of the platform: 10-12 October 2024, at the University of Costa Rica.
