History is often told through the lives of well-known personalities, often men of European descent from the upper classes. But which women had a significant impact on the 20th century? Their achievements are often overshadowed, but the new podcast “Heroines of the 20th Century - Black Women in the Americas” from Leibniz Universität Hannover is now giving them a stage.
Based on the course of the same name by Vanessa Ohlraun (CEAGS), each episode highlights, in collaboration with students, the biographies of black women whose achievements have shaped the societies in which they lived. The podcast focuses on the personalities of Ana Echegoyen, Ellen Irene Diggs, Zora Neale Hurston and Rosa Parks in the period 1930-1960, but also their connections to the present day. The podcast highlights not only their achievements, but also the challenges they had to fight against - and shows why their stories continue to inspire today.
